About

We are Ed and Sarah Walker, and Walker Bend is our home. Welcome!

The Walker family came to Texas in the 1830’s when it was a nation of its own. They settled on a horseshoe-shaped curve on the Neches River in East Texas known as Walker Bend. They later moved up the hill (what the locals call Walker mountain) and we still care for that land today.

We named our ranch near Dallas, Texas Walker Bend in honor of that family legacy. (It also happens to be at the end of the pavement where our road makes a hard right turn!)

Here we raise cattle, bale hay, care for pastures, garden, enjoy our farm animals (pigs, goats, chickens, sheep, horses, etc.). We try to be good stewards of all we’ve been entrusted with and are building a beautiful place for others to enjoy as well.

We’ve packed a lot of excitement into over 30 years of marriage…. Raised three awesome kids and now have 2 grandkids. Music, ministry, business, real estate, agriculture, and more. In 2003 we started building Sabine Creek Ranch, a camp/retreat center that now hosts thousands of guests each year, and we led that for over 16 years before selling it in 2020.

Ed grew up playing music – country, bluegrass, and gospel – with his family, then found jazz and focused on keyboards, songwriting, orchestration, and production through college and beyond. He traveled doing music for camps, churches, and other events for many years, and also had media and publishing businesses, and invested in real estate to make ends meet. In 2014 he took an unexpected detour and became a professor, directing the Camp & Recreation Management and Hospitality Management degree programs in the College of Business at Dallas Baptist University. He came full circle in 2022, becoming Executive Director at Mt. Lebanon Camp & Retreat, the camp he had grown up attending and where he first started leading music for groups.

Sarah is a gifted leader and was a math teacher and principal before becoming the administrator at Sabine Creek Ranch. She also grew up attending camp at Mt. Lebanon with her church and loves getting to wear her camp consultant hat some. However, her favorite role and priority has always been being a wife and mom, and now “Sadie” to Rhett and Ellie!

Welcome to our home. Please join us as we look forward to what’s coming “Around the Bend.”

A little of our story.

(It’s from 2020, but it gives a good bit of background.)
